It was a very bad year

Director: Harold Ramis Cast: Jack Black, Michael Cera, David Cross Rated: PG-13

Harold, you are so close to being taken of the list. I have always given Harold Ramis a free pass because he was involved with Caddyshack. Not to mention Ghostbusters and Stripes. But those days are obviously long gone as now he brings forth Year One.

Where do you even begin? Well let’s start at the beginning where there is so much potential.

Here you have a film directed by the legendary Ramis revolving around the Old Testament and starring Jack Black and Michael Cera. How could it go wrong?

You wouldn’t believe how many ways. And as for Michael Cera, he better mix it up because his one role as the awkward virgin boyfriend is starting to get very old. He’s not at Pauly Shore status yet, but he’s on the way.

But hey, maybe I’m way off base and you will like this film. Here’s a good test: Do you find fart in bed jokes funny? Do you find urinating on yourself funny? If the answer to both was yes, – then boy do I have a film for you! Oh and if you like people eating feces this film will be a must have.

However, if on the odd chance you need a little more in your films, than please avoid this at all costs. Sure the religious bits had some potential, but in the end they are equal parts painful and pathetic.

What had all the earmarking of a Monty Python’s Life of Brian meets Mel Brooks’s History of the World ended up being nothing more than an exercise in comedic failure.
