Masked men damage campground

On Friday, July 3 at 8:45 a.m. owner of Paradise Valley Campground reports two males wearing masks were observed opening and damaging a pop cooler on the deck of the campground office. Second time this has happened and damaged is estimated at $100, still under investigation to review video surveillance.

Spike belt ends pursuit

On Sunday (July 5) at 7:53 p.m. members received several 911 calls regarding a 1997 Nissan driving north bound on Highway 99 near Furry Creek, the vehicle was being driven at extremely high speed and passing vehicle illegally and unsafely. A check of the vehicle’s licence determined that the vehicle had eluded police multiple times in the Lower Mainland earlier in the day. The vehicle was intercepted by two police units and refused to stop, it was still being driven at high speeds and in a very erratic and dangerous fashion. A third police unit successfully deployed a spike belt flattening tires on the suspect vehicle forcing it to a stop.

The 42-year-old male driver was arrested under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment. The male was admitted and transported to Lions Gate Hospital for treatment. The matter is still under investigation for follow-up and review.

Minors possessing alcohol

On Friday, July 3 at 9:50 p.m. a member on patrol of Fisherman’s Park located two males aged 16 and 17 in possession of liquor. Both youths were issued violation tickets for being Minors in Possession of Liquor.

The same night at 11:23 p.m. police received a complaint of a noisy party in the area of Wingtip Place. Members attending located a 16-year-old male drinking a from a bottle of wine on the street. The youth was issued a violation ticket for Minor in Possession of Liquor and Consuming Liquor in Public.

Three caught for impaired driving

On July 1 at 8:22 p.m. a member on patrol observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at Tantalus and Diamond Road. The 44-year-old male displayed signs of impairment and registered a “fail” on a roadside screening device. The male was returned to the detachment and supplied two samples of breath of the legal limit of .08% and was later released on a Promise to Appear to attend court on Sept. 2 and answer to a charge of Impaired Driving.

On July 2 at 10:25 p.m. member was on patrol near Highway 99 and Depot Road when a vehicle overtook the marked police vehicle traveling more than 20 km-h over the posted speed limit. The vehicle was stopped and open liquor was observed in the vehicle and the 27-year-old male driver “failed” a roadside screening test and registered two readings on the breathalyzer over the legal limit of .08%. The male was released on a Promise to Appear to answer to a charge of Impaired Driving in Provincial Court.

On July 4 at 9:50 p.m. a member on patrol observed a vehicle driving erratically on Third Avenue. When the police vehicle turned around, the suspect vehicle sped off and drove into a parking lot at the rear of the Ocean Port Hotel. The 40-year-old male driver fled the vehicle on foot and was caught and arrested after a brief foot chase in the Cold Beer and Wine Store at the Ocean Port Hotel. The intoxicated male was returned to the detachment and refused to supply samples of his breath. The male was later released on a Promise to Appear with a court date of Aug. 12 to answer to charges of Impaired Driving and Refusing to Supply Breath Samples.

Wood stolen

On Thursday, July 2 owner reports the theft of decking wood from a business on Third Avenue, four lengths of 4" X 10" X 22' wood used for decking on trucks was stolen valued at $500.
