The Chief is no billboard

This letter was sent to District of Squamish Councillor Patricia Heintzman and copied to The Chief for publication.

While I generally support your decisions on council, I'm very disappointed with your decision to solicit climbers in putting up a banner on the Chief [“Climbers achieve great heights for gold medalist,” The Chief, Feb. 26].

The reason for the banner is irrelevant. Mr. Maddaloni, in his ignorance, started what now appears to be a craze that you have happily continued.

The surrounding environment is what makes Squamish great, and the Chief is the "gold medal" of our environment.

Please don't bring the Chief into Squamish's sad declining trend of billboards, strip malls and box stores.
