MidSummer Night's Dream at Garf’s

Get ready for a night of fun, fantasy and surreal wonder as Garfinkel’s again hosts its annual MidSummer Night’s Dream extravaganza on Monday (July 19).

The evening promises to be an enchanting celebration of the Whistler community and spirit.

Be warned, though: There’s a dress code that’ll be strictly enforced. You have to come dressed in fantasy clothing or semi-formal attire.

Be creative (and sexy — it is a Whistler party after all), and don’t be afraid; there’ll be plenty of other people dressed to the nines and showing off their wild costumes.

It’s actually one of the summer’s most anticipated club parties, and is now in its seventh year — so expect it to sell out fast.

This year’s MidSummer Night’s Dream (of course inspired by the immortal bard Shakespeare) also features a pre-party reception at the Mountain Club from 7 to 10 p.m., followed by the main event at Garf’s until 2 a.m.

Advance tickets for A MidSummer Night’s Dream VII — The Dream Continues run $20 and are available at clubzone.com.

Want to experience the night in VIP style and for free?

Book a table for the pre-party by calling (604) 932-2323 and the table includes discounted MSN VII menu, free tickets to MSN VII and a Fairy Escort straight past the lineup at Garf’s!

LUNAFLIKS DOUBLE FEATURE: The rebellious spirits of rock ‘n' roll and punk hit the screen at Lost Lake on Wednesday (July 21) as LUNAFliks offers a double feature along with the usual barbecue and live music.

The barbecue and music start at 8:30 p.m., followed by the screenings at sundown.

The double feature will screen the films Pirate Radio, the true story of a zany bunch of DJs on an oil tanker in international waters who broadcast rock and roll back to London, and the film The Runaways about Joan Jett’s all-girl band, starring Kristen Stewart (for all you Twilight fanatics) and Dakota Fanning.

Entry is just $7, and the barbecue and a drink are only $5. Bring a blanket and warm clothes. In the event of rain, LUNAfliks screenings move indoors to Lost Lake Passivhaus.

OUTSTANDING IN THE FIELD: Dining, wine and food have really become a huge part of the Whistler experience.

Maybe it’s Cornucopia’s influence, but it seems that there’s a gourmet living in every ski bum’s soul.

Well, here’s another event geared toward Sea to Sky foodies that’s pretty hard to beat in terms of gourmet awesomeness.

After a successful debut last year, Outstanding in the Field returns to Pemberton’s North Arm Farm on Sunday (July 18), featuring the culinary expertise of Chef James Walt from Whistler¹s award-wining Araxi restaurant.

After a tour of the farm conducted by Pemberton Mayor Jordan Sturdy (the farm’s owner), about 130 lucky guests get to dine with views of Mount Currie while Sturdy, Walt and the winemaker whose wine accompanies the gourmet meal join them and discuss the delights of food.

Tickets are $180 and found at outstandinginthefield.com.

BLANK SLATE THEATRE RETURNS: Theatre lovers will, um, love going to the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre Sept. 1 to 4 for the return of the Blank Slate Theatre Festival.

For its second season of productions, Blank Slate presents Almost an Evening by Ethan Coen, and The Big Oops by Brendan McLeod.

In Almost an Evening, three short plays unsuccessfully tackle such important subjects as waiting, self-discovery and the universe.

The Big Oops is an original one-woman play centered on an upcoming children’s entertainer who must decide if she wants to have a child after she becomes pregnant.

Almost an Evening and the Big Oops run Sept. 1 to 4 at the SLCC, with doors opening at 7 p.m. for drinks and reception, and the plays beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.
