Suspects sought in Squamish knife attack

Man suffers puncture wound, laceration in nighttime assault

Police are seeking the public's help in locating two suspects in an assault and knife attack that allegedly took place outside a bar on Tantalus Road on the weekend.

The victim, a male, suffered a puncture wound and a laceration to his arm as a result of the attack, which occurred on Saturday (Jan. 14) sometime after midnight, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said in a statement.

According to police, the victim had just left the bar when he was approached by two men who asked where they could buy drugs. When the victim said he did not know, the victim was punched by one male, while the second pulled out a knife and also attacked, Pride said.

Two other males who were passing by intervened, and the suspects fled. The victim did not report the attack, but police received the information from a third party, located the victim, and interviewed him, Pride said.

The first suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his mid-30s with a thick, full black beard and tall — possibly six feet or taller, Pride said. At the time of the attack he was wearing a black New York Yankees ballcap and a puffy black jacket.

The second suspect, the one who allegedly wielded the knife, was a Caucasian male in his 20s with short, black, buzz-cut hair. He also had a tattoo on his neck that appeared to extend beneath his shirt. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a white, long-sleeved shirt with “Nike” written down the sleeve. No approximate height was provided but he was the shorter of the two men, Pride said.

If you have information about the incident, please phone Squamish RCMP at (604) 892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
