Cell phone helps RCMP recover stolen car

Police seeking public's help with investigation

A cellular phone service provider helped police track down a vehicle that had been stolen in Squamish this week.

On Monday (July 9) at around 4 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle theft from the 1900 block of Garibaldi Way, RCMP Sgt. Eric Rochette said in a statement.

The owner had left the car running and had left his cell phone inside, Rochette said. With the help of the cell phone service provider, officers were able to track down the phone and locate the vehicle, which was parked beside a tennis court along University Boulevard, he said.

Anyone with information about this or other crimes is asked to contact Squamish RCMP at (604) 892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
