A Surrey man is missing in Anderson Lake since Friday (Aug. 17) after cliff-jumping into the water from a height of 175 feet.
Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair said in a press release Whistler Pemberton RCMP were notified at 5:55 p.m. that the 26-year-old was missing and had been boating 15 km north of D'arcy on the east shore of Anderson Lake at the time.
Witnesses said the male climbed up the cliff to jump in the water, which was something he did regularly in other locations. He did not resurface and several of his companions dove into the water in an unsuccessful attempt to locate him.
A police helicopter was in the area and attended to attempt to locate the man. Pemberton Search and Rescue attended and used a commercial helicopter to search in addition to several civilian water craft in the area.
Search continued until dark and resumed again today (Aug. 18) but have so far been unable to locate the man.
"Our thoughts are with the family of the missing man during this difficult time. We certainly hope that we will be able to locate him however the water in this area of the lake is extremely deep," said LeClair.
The RCMP E Division Underwater Recovery (Dive) Team will attend the location on Sunday morning to continue the search for the missing male.
