Storm takes second in Chilliwack

Gray, Stewart post hat tricks for Squamish U14 girls soccer team

Squamish's U14 girls travel soccer team outscored opponents 21-3 in the tournament but couldn't get past one of their regular rivals, the Chilliwack Attack, in the final of the Chilliwack Youth Soccer Tournament on the weekend.

The Storm, coached by Brent Williston and Chris Doyle, defeated the Maple Ridge Fury 9-1 in their opening game on Saturday (Aug. 25) behind three goals each from Kei Gray and Scarlett Stewart and singles by Kyley Rosser, Emily Doyle and Laura Gates.

The Storm then defeated the Chilliwack Strikers 4-1, with two goals by Larissa Black and one each by Gates and Rosser.

Squamish then beat the Burnaby Riptides 8-0 with two goals each from Stewart and Emily Doyle and one each from Gray, Black, Isobelle Williston and Cameron Larson. Madison Doyle and Chloe Moberg split time in goal to record the shutout.

The Storm, though, dropped a 1-0 decision to the Chilliwack Attack and finished second in the tournament final on Sunday (Aug. 26).

The Storm kicks off play in Division 1 of the B.C. Coastal Girls Soccer League on Sept. 9. Squamish finished third in the top U13 division last year.
