Khalsa begins defence of title

Defending HSMSL champs kick off season with win

Khalsa started off the 2012-’13 Howe Sound Men’s Soccer League (HSMSL) season the same way it finished last season — with a win.

The defending HSMSL champions kicked off the new campaign with a 5-1 victory over the Ellis Moving Eagles in Week 1 action.

Jeremy Galley picked up a hat trick for Khalsa, with Taran Bir and Richard Collins adding singles. Chris Golaiy scored the lone goal for the Eagles.

The other early game saw Galileo edge Sikh Temple 3-2 in a chippy affair that saw three red cards handed out. Galileo eliminated Sikh Temple from the playoffs last year and both teams didn’t forget that fact. Robbie Nahanee, Kyle Smith and Cristian Oreamuno tallied for Galileo, while Gurprit Rai scored both goals for Sikh Temple.

The late game saw Automind defeat Lil’wat FC 7-0. Charlie Robinson and Istvan Richter scored a pair of goals apiece, with Dane Sweeney, Arie Vanderbeyden and Griffin Dare adding singles,.

The league continues on Sunday (Sept. 16), with Galileo taking on Automind, Khalsa battling Sikh Temple and the late game features Lil’wat FC facing off against the Ellis Moving Eagles. All games take place at Brennan Park, with the early matches starting at 10 a.m. and the late game kicking off at noon.
