Galileo grabs first place

HSMSL has new leader after week 2

Galileo now sits alone atop the Howe Sound Men’s Soccer League (HSMSL) standings after two weeks of play.

Last year’s runner-up defeated Automind 3-1 on Sunday (Sept. 16) to improve to two wins and no losses this season. James Whalen, Kyle Smith and Richard Moody scored for Galileo, with Griffin Dare picking up the lone goal for Automind, which dropped to one win and one loss on the season.

Defending champion Khalsa played Sikh Temple to a 1-1 draw to move to one win and one tie, and in sole possession of second place. Gary O’Neil tallied for Khalsa, with Justin Cheema replying for Temple, which remained winless on the season at one tie and one loss.

The late game saw Lilwat FC blank Zephyr 5-0. It was the first game of the year for Zephyr, a late addition to the league. The HSMSL now sports seven teams, the most since 2009. Lilwat improved to one win and one loss with the victory. Scoring for Lilwat were Craig Dan with two and singles from Madison Jones, Clark Wallace and Mark Gabriel.

HSMSL action continues on Sunday (Sept. 23) with the 10 a.m. games featuring the Ellis Moving Eagles taking on Zephyr and Khalsa taking on Automind. Galileo takes on Lilwat at noon.
