Quest's Mari Tarleton winds up for a shot against VIU during Pacwest action from earlier this year. Tarleton scored both goals in the Kermodes 2-0 win over Kwantlen on Sunday (Sept. 23).

Just call them the road warriors.

The Quest Kermodes women’s soccer team hit the road on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 22 and 23) and picked up wins over Douglas College and Kwantlen.

Saturday saw the team take on the Douglas Royals, and it was rookie midfielder Gabriella Villasenor who opened the scoring in the second half to give the Kermodes the lead. Defender Daniella Smith added a late insurance goal to give Quest the 2-0 win.

The next day, Quest travelled to Surrey to take on the Kwantlen Eagles and left town with a 2-1 win. Striker Mari Tarleton scored both goals in the victory. The pair of wins puts Quest at a record of three wins, two losses and one draw, good for second place in the Pacwest.

It’s an entirely different story for the men’s team after two crushing defeats.

The squad took on Douglas on Saturday and after falling behind 1-0 early on, Charles Impey headed in the tying goal. The Kermodes were then forced to play with 10 men for the remainder of the game after defender Derek McKinnon received his second yellow card, but Quest responded as J.B. McEown scored the go-ahead goal. The one-player disadvantage proved to be too much for the Kermodes to handle, though, as the Royals added two more goals to secure the 3-2 win.

Quest battled Kwantlen on Sunday, but couldn’t solve the Eagles keeper and lost 1-0. The losses drop the Kermodes record to zero wins, four losses and two draws on the year and they sit in eighth place overall.

The teams will be back in action on Saturday (Sept. 29) when they travel to Vancouver to take on the Langara Falcons. Quest will then host the Falcons on Sunday (Sept. 30). The women’s team kicks off at noon, while the men hit the pitch at 2 p.m.
