Fall into The Avengers

The Avengers is now out on DVD. Columnist Bryan Raiser reviews the action flick.

It’s rare that we can all agree on anything, but I’m sure everyone will agree this summer was awesome. From the day it started, we’ve had nothing but sunshine and good times right to the end. The cherry on this summer cake was to start with one of the greatest action hero movies ever and it ends with the same movie coming on BluRay and DVD just in time for fall.

The Avengers hype was/is humungous and rightly so, since this is the first time that one movie has been the sequel of four different film franchises including Thor, Captain America, Incredible Hulk and two Iron Man movies.

Bringing them all together is none other than Joss Whedon. Once again the man behind Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog (find it!) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer proves he can do no wrong as he weaves many stories into one film while giving each their due time.

As for a standout role, Bruce Banner and the Hulk takes the cake. Yes Thor, Iron Man and Captain America are all great characters with fantastic actors, but the 10-year-old boy in me simply found it impossible not to smile when the inevitable “Hulk Smash” scene arrived. And the biggest laugh of the film comes from none other than Harry Dean Staton, which is a tip of the hat to all sorts of awesomeness.

Special features: As with all Joss Whedon projects, the special features are definitely worth viewing. Here we have the obligatory audio commentary by Joss, not to mention lots of deleted-scenes footage.
