A 24-year-old man is under investigation for possible theft and immigration-related matters after a theft at a home in Valleycliffe last week.

On Friday (Oct. 5), police responded to a report of a wallet containing about $200 taken from a home in the 38000 block of Westway Avenue, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.

The man, described as “well known to local police,” was arrested on suspicion of having stolen the wallet from a friend, a 38-year-old woman. The man is a visitor from North Korea and is also being investigate “for his legal status and stay in Canada,” Pride wrote.

Items stolen

Police also responded to two thefts of items from motor vehicles during the past week. On Saturday (Oct. 6), Squamish RCMP were informed of a theft from a vehicle that had been parked in the 39000 block of Government Road sometime between 2 and 6 a.m. A front car window had been smashed and key holes damaged. Stolen were an iPod , a camera and approximately $200 cash.

On Monday (Oct. 8), a vehicle was reportedly broken into at the Shannon Falls parking lot between noon and 1:30 p.m. A side vehicle window was smashed. Stolen were a Lenovo laptop computer and black Dell laptop bag, a Panasonic camera and chargers for the laptop and camera.

Men arrested

Two Squamish men are facing assault charges after separate incidents on Monday.

At around 11:45 a.m., police responded to a report of an assault in the 38000 block of Northridge Drive. At the scene, police arrested a 52-year-old Squamish man for allegedly assaulting his 48-year-old girlfriend and her 21-year-old daughter after an argument.

On Monday at around midnight, police responded to a report of an assault having occurred near Gambier Avenue and Magee Street in Dentville. At the scene, police located and arrested a 31-year-old Squamish man “who was very well known to them,” Pride wrote. The man had allegedly assaulted his 39-year-old girlfriend after an argument.

Shed entered

On Saturday, police received a report of a break-and-enter to a shed of a home in the 38000 block of Newport Road. The hinges to a door had been pried off, but apparently nothing was taken. At around midnight, the resident heard a noise near the shed and shortly after that, heard the sound of a motorcycle riding away — possibly the suspect leaving after having been scared off, Pride said.
