Storm wins Thanksgiving tourney

U14 girls soccer team defeats Vipers 4-0 in final

Scarlett Stewart scored her fifth goal of the tournament and Kyley Rosser her fourth as the U14 Squamish Storm girls soccer team defeated the North Shore Vipers 4-0 in the final of the North Vancouver Thanksgiving Tournament on Monday (Oct. 8).

It was the first-ever tournament title for the Storm, coached by Brent Williston and Chris Doyle.

Rosser scored both Squamish goals as the local team defeated the North Shore Riptide 2-1 in the team’s opening game. Stewart then scored twice and Rosser, Kei Gray and Chloe Moberg once to lead Squamish to a 5-1 victory over the Kamloops Blaze No. 2 team.

Stewart scored twice and Gray and Jasleen Sekhon once each to lead the Storm to a 4-2 win over Kamloops Blaze No. 1.

Stewart, Rosser, Gray and Kendra Kubin scored one each in Monday’s win in the final. Madison Doyle was in goal to record the shutout.

Other Storm players who played in the tournament were Maddie Barrett, Larissa Black, Laura Gates, Jenna Kubin, Cameron Larson, Cassie Newell, Kaci Reed and Isobelle Williston. The Storm resumes play in the B.C. Coastal Girls Soccer League’s U14 Division 1 with a home game this Sunday at Brennan Park.
