Cougars tie North Vancouver

Juvenile hockey action returns to Squamish

Juvenile hockey returned to Brennan Park Arena on Monday (Oct. 15) with the Squamish Cougars taking on North Vancouver.

Squamish opened the scoring nine minutes into the game when Jordan Andreef tallied on the power play, but despite solid goaltending from Lyndon Jhuty, defensive mistakes cost the Cougars and North Van took a 2-1 lead after one period of play.

The Cougars battled through most of the second period shorthanded after taking 12 minutes in penalties and North Van scored midway through the second to take a 3-1 lead. Nick Lowe cut the lead by one with a late shorthanded goal to close the period.

Squamish tied the game early in the third but North Van answered back with three straight goal to take the 6-3 lead. The Cougars received a seven-minute power play minutes later and they took advantage as captain Sean Mayhadee scored twice to cut the lead to one and Deanne Harris tied the game at six. Nothing was settled in the dying minutes of the game and the two teams finished with a 6-6 tie.

Team officials were pleased with the turnout for the home opener but encouraged hockey fans of all ages to check out the team’s games, which take place each and every Monday night.
