Bowers, Martin qualify for provincials

A pair of young local runners are off to Prince George to compete against the province’s best.

Sarah Bowers, a Grade 10 student from Howe Sound Secondary School, and Don Ross Secondary Grade 9 student Shondra Martin are heading to B.C.’s northern capital after a top-20 finish in the North Shore Zone cross-country finals, which took place at DRSS on Oct. 24.

The duo took on more than 100 runners from Grade 8 to 12 in the five-kilometre race, with Bowers placing sixth and Martin finishing 18th. The top 20 girls and boys qualified for provincials. The top-ranked local boy was HSSS student Phillpp Hartung, who placed 59th overall.

Martin and Bowers head to Prince George for the provincial cross-country race, taking place on Saturday (Nov. 3).
