The Whistler Sliding Centre (WSC) this week announced the launch of what’s intended as an annual effort to help feed those in need in Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton during the holiday season.
“Fast Food: Skeleton Slide for Hunger,” which takes place on Dec. 10 at the track, will see the WSC donate money from skeleton slides to Sea to Sky community food banks.
With usage on the rise at the Squamish, Pemberton, and Whistler food banks, the fundraiser comes at a key time community, organizers said.
“This event could not come at a better time, Lois Wynne, executive director of Sea to Sky Community Services, said in a statement issued on Tuesday (Nov. 20). “This season is a difficult time for many families. We need thousands of dollars in donations every year to supply families with needed emergency food support.”
“We’re hoping to raise up to $15,000 for the local food banks in registration fees alone,” facility director Tracy Seitz said. “Not only is the event raising money for a great cause, but we’re giving the community a chance to come and try skeleton for only $50.”
Participants can register a team of five for the “Local’s Cup” for a chance to win great prizes and the title of “Fastest Team.” For those more interested in keeping the glory to themselves, a prize will also be awarded to the coveted “Fastest Time of the Day.” Prizes will be awarded at the after-party at 8 p.m. at the Whistler Brewhouse.
The event runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Advance purchase is required and is only available online at https://wsc.ticketbud.com/fast-food-skeleton-slide-for-hunger.
