Alternative wellness fair planned

‘Just U’ event to feature a wide array of presenters, products

The first local alternative health and wellness fair, featuring products and practitioners from the Sea to Sky Corridor and beyond, is planned next weekend in Squamish.

The Just U Health and Wellness Fair, planned next Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 1 and 2) at the Sea to Sky Hotel, will include at least 35 tables showcasing “amazing alternative products and services to promote health and well being,” as well as presentations by inspirational speakers on a wide variety of topics, organizer Gwen Sloan said.

The speakers include Karen McGregor, an intuition expert who has written two books and has shared the stage with luminaries such as Deepak Chopra, Michael Beckwith, James Twyman, Adam Dreamhealer and David Wolfe. Her books include the recent beststeller The Madonna Code: Mysteries of the Divine Feminine Unveiled.

Other speakers include Squamish’s own Adam Hart, creator the program The Power of Food; Dr. Holly Fourchalk, a doctor of natural medicine and master herbal therapist; and Van Clayton Powell, founder of Mind Body Fitness and author of the book You are NOT What You Eat, dealing with steps to better digestion.

Sloan, who runs Just U Reflexology in Squamish, said the idea for the fair arose out of a series of spa parties she has run out of her home. She said the fact that so many alternative practitioners make the Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky Corridor home served as inspiration.

“Right now this belt from Squamish to Whistler to Pemberton is getting so spiritual, and there are so many people doing so many different types of treatments in the corridor,” Sloan said. “I just think there are a lot of people who don’t really know what we have available here, and I’m inviting them all to come out and learn more about what’s here.”

Some 35 tables featuring alternative healing products and practitioners will be available in the main Sea to Sky Hotel ballroom, with presentations taking place in a nearby meeting room, she said.

The fair runs Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is by donation of food, money or gifts to Community Christmas Care in Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton.

As well, Saturday’s event will include a drumming and chanting sound and healing session hosted by M.J. and Dean of Sacred Fire. Sunday’s session will include a crystal bowl healing session with Cynthia Miller and Brent Postle. Admission to either of those presentations, which take place at 7:30 p.m., is $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
