Nexen suggestion

EDITOR,

I’d like to make a suggestion for the Nexen lands. It doesn’t seem like too many developers are chomping at the bit for the next big Granville Island so maybe something a little less grand and more useful may be in order. Anyone who has been down walking the dog lately will have no doubt noticed how a big high tide comes pretty close to washing the whole show into the sound. Perhaps the smart developers have noticed this too and have also paid some attention to the forecast of rising sea levels. I hope so. At any rate, let’s take a page from the lessons of Hurricane Katrina and turn the whole thing back to what its supposed to be in the first place — a giant sponge and first line of defence against the increasing odds of flood. Better to make that decision now before some basket-case developer (they do exist) with more money than brains creates another Aqua Velvet in a swamp, then bails out in bankruptcy to let us schmuck taxpayers to plaster it with overpriced Band-Aids.
