Squamish residents will soon have the chance to hit the miniature links.
The 18 hole Whistle Punk Hollow mini-golf course is expected to open in May at the Eagle Vista RV Park and owner Janice Kirkman hopes it quickly becomes a destination for local families.
“There's no movie theatre or bowling in town,” she said. “And this should give something for families to do in Squamish.”
Construction on the course started back in December and she said reaction to the idea has been highly positive.
“We've got a great reaction from people around town,” she said. “A lot of people seem excited about it. We haven't done much advertising yet, only online and sent it to our friends but it's begun to spread.”
The Whistle Punk Hollow's Facebook page already has 162 likes and also showcases the theme of the course, which will be a historical look at Squamish. The town's logging and railroad history will be featured. Kirkman's father and grandfather were both highly decorated Loggers Sports competitors and the theme was chosen to honour their time in the sport.
Kirkman pointed out that the course is being designed by Dan Sawatzky of the Imagination Corporation. Sawatzky designed the Giggle Ridge mini-golf course located in Cultus Lake and is deeply involved in creating all of the features on the course. Plans include a waterfall, a train and lively music.
The course is scheduled to be open seasonally, roughly from May to October, and will be weather dependant as all holes will be outside. Kirkman said hours are likely to be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and admission rates will be about $8 for adults and $6 for children.
