Squamish authorities this week issued an alert to residents after a coyote killed a pet in Garibaldi Highlands.
The message, which District of Squamish officials called a “coyote activity public awareness message,” was issued on Thursday (Jan. 31) after a coyote killed a pet dog on The Crescent in the Quest University area.
“In an effort to mitigate the potential for human-coyote conflict, we would like to remind everyone to be alert and aware at all times,” the advisory said. “Please keep pets indoors or on a leash. Roaming pets are an easy target for predators such as coyotes, wolves and cougars.”
“Coyote in Area” signs were being posted in the area where the incident occurred, officials said.
