Pemberton Mayor Jordan Study has been confirmed as the official Liberal Party candidate for the upcoming provincial election.
“It is a really exciting opportunity,” Sturdy said on Saturday (Feb. 16) after winning the nomination over Robin Smith. “Clearly I look at it as carrying on the work that I do now at a local level on a more regional context.”
The news that Jordan Sturdy had won the nomination came after voting concluded in Squamish on Saturday. On Friday (Feb. 15), a “travelling ballot box” visited West Vancouver, and also made stops in Pemberton and Whistler earlier Saturday.
Sturdy was running unopposed for several months until former head of Smith, former CEO of the B.C. Dairy Association, announced his candidacy at the end of January.
The nomination process began after two-term MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky Joan McIntyre announced at the beginning of September she would would not seek re-election.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Mayor Sturdy for a number of years,” said McIntyre in a press release announcing Sturdy’s nomination. “He is a strong leader and will be a strong advocate for our constituency.”
B.C. voters are set to go to the polls to elect a new government on May 14. The Liberals are the first party to name a candidate in the riding that includes West Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton.
