Store will be missed

EDITOR,

It is very sad to see Highland Video close after all these years — definitely an end to an era (“Highland Video closing its doors,” Chief, Feb. 7). Highland Video was opened in 1983 by Gwen and Bern Taylor and Al Newman. The store was vacant and they thought it an excellent location for a video store. Gwen Taylor owned it for 18 years until she sold it to Mr. Choo in 2001. I managed the store a couple of years before that to enable Mum to retire. We employed many wonderful students throughout the years who grew up to have children of their own to enjoy the store. The first employee outside of the family was Ailsa Yaky, who stayed with us for many years. My children were brought up around videos and made excellent employees when they were old enough! There has been many changes since it was first opened. Although it is a sign of the times, and the video store will be missed, it will not be forgotten as we have some wonderful memories of it.
