Sikh Temple's Bruno Freitas tries to deke around a Galileo defender during HSMSL action on Sunday (Feb. 24).

For the first time since last March, B&B Excavating tasted defeat.

The defending Howe Sound Men’s Soccer League (HSMSL) champions were last beaten on March 18, 2012 but Automind handed them a rare loss on Sunday (Feb. 24), with a final score of 3-1.

B&B Excavating head coach Ninder Bir admitted that his team was playing with no spares after several players were sick or were suffering from injuries but gave full credit to Automind for the win.

Mark Wilson, Istvan Richter and Marc Laventure tallied for Automind, with Jeremy Galley scoring the lone goal for B&B. Automind improved to six wins and seven losses on the season, while B&B dropped to 10 wins, two ties and the single loss.

The day’s other game saw Galileo blank Sikh Temple 3-0. Robbie Nahanee scored a pair for Galileo, which moved to within six points of first place B&B with the win. Galileo’s record stands at eight wins, three losses and two ties on the season. Sikh Temple fell to six wins, six losses and one tie and remain in fourth place.

The Ellis Moving Eagles were awarded a default win in the late game due to Lilwat FC not fielding enough players. Action continues on Sunday (March 3) with the Eagles taking on B&B, Sikh Temple battling Automind and Lilwat challenging Galileo.
