Galileo finished off the Howe Sound Men’s Soccer League (HSMSL) season in style, posting a big 3-1 win over the Ellis Moving Eagles on Sunday (March 17).

The win clinched second place for the 2011 champions and it was the squad’s tenth win of the season. Kyle Smith (two) and Jay Lewis scored for Galileo, with Nathan Ward tallying the lone goal for the Eagles. Ellis finished in third place with a record of eight wins, six losses and two ties.

Also on Sunday, Sikh Temple proved they can play with the big boys after playing the defending champions B&B Excavating to a 2-2 tie. Gary O’Neil and Chris Johnstone scored for B&B, with Sunny Sanghera and Bruno Freitas scoring for Temple.

B&B’s final record stands at 12 wins, one loss and three ties, while Temple finished fourth with a record of seven wins, six losses and three ties. B&B’s Jeremy Galley picked up the Golden Boot for most goals, scoring an impressive 20. Galley beat out Nathan Ward out of the Eagles, who picked up 17.

The final game was a default win for Automind after Lilwat FC did not field enough players to put together a team.

This year’s playoffs will be a bit of a departure for the HSMSL as teams will play each other in a round robin format spanning the next three weeks with games taking place on Sundays and Wednesdays. Opening round robin action kicks off on Sunday (March 24) with Galileo playing Automind and the Ellis Moving Eagles battling Sikh Temple.

The HSMSL finals will take place on April 13. For more information on the league, www.howesoundmens.snappages.com.
