I am writing about the current and ongoing gas price situation in Squamish. Now the gas prices are cheaper in North and West Vancouver than they are in Squamish. I moved to Squamish about a year ago (and continue to commute daily to the city); the prices were typically eight to 10 cents cheaper than those in the city; slowly, they’ve crept closer and closer to city prices until they’ve now surpassed city prices. What gives? We don’t pay into a transit tax up here, so why are our prices not reflective of this? We should be seeing prices congruent to those in the Fraser Valley or Okanagan. It’s time that residents stand up to the monopoly that these gas stations seem to have on us and those travelling through to go to Whistler. What can we do as residents? Please advise.
