Ryan Brandon Reece of Squamish will have to wait until Nov. 5 for his bail hearing.
Reece appeared via video conference in North Vancouver Provincial Court Thursday (Oct. 3) on charges of operating a motor vehicle while disqualified, criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving causing death and cause an accident resulting in death.
Judge Raymond Low agreed to adjourn Thursday’s scheduled show-cause hearing until Nov. 5, giving Crown counsel Lindsay Herron and defence lawyer Hollis Jolly more time to prepare.
That means Reece will remain behind bars through the first anniversary of a fatal Nov. 1, 2012, Brackendale crash. Squamish resident Tanya Lee Boudewyn died in the crash, while Reece was airlifted to hospital in Vancouver for treatment.
Reece is facing trial on Jan. 20 and 21, 2014 as a result of an Aug. 19 incident in Squamish. He was charged with driving while disqualified, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, care or control of vehicle while impaired, flight from a peace officer, failure to provide a sample, willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer, break and enter with intent to commit an offence and trespassing at night.
On May 1, Reece was guilty of driving while over .08 blood alcohol content as a result of an April 8 incident in Squamish.
