The rivalry between local senior curlers and those from Gibsons heated up earlier this month.
Howe Sound Curling Club (HSCC) members invited four teams from Gibsons to Squamish for Part 1 of the two clubs’ annual invitational challenge and HSCC curlers picked up wins in six out of eight games.
The series continues on Feb. 5 when the Squamish teams travel to Sunshine Coast to take on squads from both Gibsons and Powell River.
The HSCC hosts three mornings of curling every week for seniors on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m. Teams are put together by the HSCC senior executive committee to make them as even as possible and then are mixed up and re-formed in the New Year.
The club also hosts a open house on Jan. 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and is inviting the entire community to give the sport a try. There is free instruction for all new players and brooms and grippers are available for those without equipment.
