John Weston this week announced plans to seek a third term as the Sea to Sky Corridor's elected representative in Ottawa.
Weston, who was first elected as MP for West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country in 2008 and won re-election in 2011, on Tuesday (Feb. 18) said he'll to seek the Conservative Party nomination in the riding for the 2015 federal election.
“The excitement and energy of having been chosen by the public to represent them, generated 1,954 days ago, has not only maintained its level but increased exponentially,” Weston said in a statement. “The potential our community developed through our volunteerism, hard work, and vigilance is fueling me and my team to serve better and accomplish even more for the people of West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country riding.
“I am delighted to announce that it would be my honour and privilege to keep serving past the next election.”
Weston, a lawyer, first entered federal politics in 2006, running for the seat being vacated by retiring MP John Reynolds. He suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Liberal Blair Wilson. He first won the seat in 2008, handily defeating Liberal Ian Sutherland, the ex-Squamish mayor, and others. In 2011, Weston defeated Liberal Dan Veniez, the second-place finisher, and others to retain the post.
