Veteran journalist Craig Oliver hosts his final CTV Question Period

OTTAWA - Veteran broadcaster Craig Oliver is signing off as an anchor of CTV's Question Period.

Oliver, 73, has been a regular co-host of the TV newsmagazine since its revival 11 years ago.

During his final show Sunday, he told viewers he would continue to appear on the weekly program's media panel and report from Parliament Hill for the network.

Recently retired CTV national news anchor Lloyd Robertson appeared on the program to wish his long-time friend well.

Oliver is legally blind, having fought glaucoma for many years.

Last year he published a revealing memoir that charted his rise to national prominence from a summer position as a radio news announcer.

Oliver said "there's a point at which you'd like to not get up Sunday mornings at 6 a.m. and put on a suit and tie."

Former Global National anchor Kevin Newman, hired last year to co-host Question Period with Oliver, will continue with the show.
