Iraqi officials: Bomb targeting Baghdad home of interior ministry official kill parents

BAGHDAD - Iraqi officials say the house of an interior ministry official has been bombed, killing his parents.

Police say the early Friday explosion targeted the home of a Shiite interior ministry lieutenant colonel in the western Baghdad's Sunni-dominated Ghazaliyah district as the family was sleeping. The official, who is Shiite, was not home at the time of the attack, which was badly damaged.

Officials at Yarmouk hospital confirmed the deaths. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.

Government employees and security forces are frequently targeted by insurgents in Iraq.
