Former inductee Paul Shaffer to host Canada's Walk of Fame awards

TORONTO - "Late Show with David Letterman" sidekick Paul Shaffer will step out from behind the piano to host this year's Canada's Walk of Fame awards.

The 62-year-old from Thunder Bay, Ont., was an honouree back in 2006.

This year's inductees include guitar legend Randy Bachman, B.C.-based chanteuse Sarah McLachlan and late funnyman Phil Hartman.

Hamilton football player Russ Jackson, Toronto ballet dancer Sonia Rodriguez and the Canadian team from the 1972 Summit Series will also be inducted.

Toronto R&B singer Melanie Fiona will receive the Allan Slaight Award, given to high-achieving young Canadians.

The gala will be held at Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre on Sept. 22.

"It's an honour to return home to Canada and host the Walk of Fame awards," Shaffer said in a statement.

"Like every other year, the lineup of 2012 inductees is outstanding and I look forward to learning their stories."
