SASKATOON - Some students at the University of Saskatchewan have been told they should be tested for tuberculosis.
Saskatoon health officials say a student who fell ill and was missing classes was diagnosed earlier this week as having the active form of the infectious disease.
University staff have informed students who share the same classes as the affected student that they should also be tested.
A clinic will be set up on campus starting Monday.
Dr. Julie Kryzanowski, deputy medical health officer for the Saskatoon Health Region, says the risk of TB transmission is considered low.
Symptoms include coughing, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss.
