Saskatchewan health officials monitoring surgery cancellations in Regina

REGINA - Saskatchewan's health minister says it's disconcerting that some elective surgeries and non-surgical elective procedures are being cancelled in Regina.

Dustin Duncan says his ministry is in close contact with the health region and believes it can manage the situation.

Some elective surgeries at Regina General Hospital were cancelled for Thursday and Friday because the facility is overcapacity.

The health region said Tuesday that it was cancelling some non-surgical elective procedures at both Regina hospitals.

Duncan says cancellations happen from time to time and he hopes the matter will be cleared up in the next few days.

A hospital spokesman says the facility is to review capacity levels Friday to see whether elective surgeries and procedures need to be cancelled again on Monday.
