Spread of virus in N.L. leads to widespread restrictions at health facilities

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The largest health authority in Newfoundland has extended visitor restrictions to another hospital, adding to a long list of health facilities affected by the spread of a flu-like virus.

Eastern Health issued a statement Thursday saying only immediate family members will be allowed to visit patients at the Waterford mental hospital in St. John's.

Already, 16 other health facilities have been closed to all visitor or to everyone except immediate family members.

As well, the health authority says people should not to visit any health facility in the region if they feel ill or are experiencing flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms.
