SASKATOON - Two of Saskatoon's hospitals are expanding their services for First Nations and Métis people.
St. Paul's Hospital and Royal University Hospital are hiring six new staff members to specifically help aboriginal patients.
Five of the staff are to be based at St. Paul's to help patients with diabetes, kidney disease and cardiac care.
The other new employee will be based at the Royal and do administrative work related to aboriginal health.
Intepretation services and cultural support will be able, as well as assistance for families and patients who travel from out-of-town.
Health region spokesman Gabe Lafond says another goal is to have an elder give a traditional perspective on hospital care.
The Saskatoon Health Region hopes to start the program next month.
