Saskatoon hospital unit reopens to visitors after no new cases of illness

SASKATOON - Visitors are now welcome at one unit at Saskatoon's Royal University Hospital.

Unit 5300 had been closed to visitors since Jan. 23 to limit the spread of a gastrointestinal illness which affected up to 12 patients and six staff.

The unit serves orthopedic and trauma patients.

The Saskatoon Health Region says in a news release that patients and staff will continue to be monitored for any further signs of illness and strict infection prevention and control measures are still in place.

It says there have been no new cases in the last four days.

The region thanked patients, their families and staff for their patience and diligence in helping to get this outbreak under control.
