BERLIN - Hundreds of flights have been cancelled after security personnel walked off the job at two German airports in a dispute over wages.
Security workers at Duesseldorf and Hamburg airports started the one-day warning strike at 4 a.m. Thursday after wage negotiations failed to make any progress.
Duesseldorf is reporting 189 flight cancellations and Hamburg about 90.
The ver.di union called the strike after the latest round of negotiations with employers ended last week without an offer they found acceptable.
Airport workers in recent months have staged several such strikes, which are used regularly as a tactic to increase pressure in German wage negotiations.
The union seeks a roughly 30 per cent pay increase for the private security company workers. Employers have offered a 9 per cent raise.
