Take out your lederhosen and mark your calendars, because the Squamish Montessori School hosts its 7th annual Oktoberfest at the Howe Sound Brew Pub on Oct. 21 starting at 7 p.m.

“The event raises money for the Montessori PAC and for things for the children that the school can’t afford,” said Fiona Miller, Squamish Montessori PAC Chair. “We use the money for things like stuff for the school’s playground, class trips and other student activities.”

The event will also support the school’s music and art programs, sports program, acquiring guest speakers, and other special events for both kids and parents.

The Squamish Montessori’s Oktoberfest features live music from Whistler’s Railtown Prophets, a 50/50 draw, German cuisine, beer (of course!), prizes for best dressed male and female, and some Bavarian Olympics, including a yodeling contest, beer holding contest, and more.

“My husband made this 12-foot Alpenhorn from PVC pipe [ for the Alphorn Karaoke contest], and everyone can have a go at it,” said Miller. “And our silent auction has loads of great items, from hotel stays to fantastic work from local artists.”

The school also has a Squamish Oktoberfest Online Auction going on right now on Facebook.

Miller said the Squamish Montessori School originally came up with the idea to host an Oktoberfest event, as something for exclusively for parents to enjoy.

“Most school fundraisers are pretty run of the mill,” she said. “But, we wanted to do something that was different, for the parents, and social. Besides… everyone loves food and beer.”

The Squamish Montessori School’s 7th annual Oktoberfest is open to everyone in the community and  kicks off at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the Howe Sound Brew Pub.

Tickets for Oktoberfest can be purchased at the Howe Sound Brew Pub, Scotties Downtown Liquor Store, Squamish Montessori School and online at www.squamishoktoberfest2017.eventbrite.ca.
