At this point in time, the District of Squamish is at a critical stage of its development. There are many exciting opportunities for positive growth that this community can capitalize on in the very near future should the community have the desire to move forward. I think the desire is there.I want to serve as a councillor so that I can be directly involved in the decision making process to make this happen in a timely manner, before the opportunities are lost.As a councillor, my two primary objectives would be to:1. Streamline the "process" for development permits, building permits, rezoning applications, etc. such that reasonable timelines are put in place. To my knowledge, the "process" is fraught with delays and in many cases, the goal posts seem to keep moving. Every time I drive past the "Welcome to Squamish" signs at the north and south ends of town, the words "Red Tape Capital of Canada" echo in my mind!
2. Re-establish confidence in the eyes of potential investors in the community (developers, businesses and individuals) including those already in the community, that Squamish is the place to be. In this regard, make it widely known both inside and outside the community that Squamish is "Open for Business."Since Squamish is in a unique location and has so much potential in so many aspects, achieving these two objectives will drive positive sustainable growth (jobs) and ultimately result in Squamish becoming a destination instead of a place to drive through.I have lived in Squamish for over 18 years and love the setting. I am a geological/geotechnical engineer and operate my own consulting engineering business from Squamish. As a councillor, I feel that my engineering background and experience would be extremely beneficial to the council.A strong, unified, decisive and transparent council is needed to move this community forward. I look forward at the opportunity to work with like-minded individuals to form a new council.Geoff [email protected]
