Mike Jenson sat on council from 2005 to 2008 and was just squeaked out of a seat in the 2008 election, placing seventh. The semi-retired accountant has been serving on the Squamish Oceanfront Development Corp., a project that would be one of his top priorities if elected, Jenson said."I would love the district to retain ownership of the most southern parts of the land," he said, noting it could be in the form of a long-term lease on the hotel portion of the project. The oceanfront views are priceless and the district has to ensure it takes advantage of the opportunity the land presents, he said.Economic development in Squamish is also a top priority, Jenson said. After the 2010 Winter Olympics, Squamish didn't experience the economic development it was hoping for as a result of the global market crashes, he noted. The district has made a good move in hiring a economic sustainability co-ordinator, Jenson said. He wants to hear about what the co-ordinator has been up to and move forward from there, Jenson said.Jenson grew up in Victoria and moved to Squamish in 1989. He is a member of the Squamish Lions Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. For 18 years, Jenson worked for the Squamish Credit Union. The father of three represented the credit union on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce and the Squamish Downtown Centre Association.Mike Jenson Information:Facebook: "Mike Jenson for Council"
