Lovecoast gears up for western tour

Band to hold fundraiser in Squamish on Sept. 13
Submitted photo Local band Lovecoast plays a fundraiser at the Royal Canadian Legion on Sept. 13 and kicks off their western Canada tour in Squamish on Nov. 8.

It’s a big step, Danielle Sweeney says excitedly over the phone.

“This is basically a giant investment,” the singer notes while in the midst of a studio session.

Along with her band mates, Squamish local Scott Verbeek, Andrew Fraser and Jesse McNeill, Lovecoast has been busy creating its first album – Chasing Tides. And they’re pulling out all the stops. The self-described R&B, pop, indie band has hired producer Tom Dobrzanski to lead the way. He’s the man behind Monarch Studios and the popular Vancouver bands Said The Whale and We Are The City.

“We hired him to do the debut,” Sweeney says.

The band is raising $10,000 to cover the five-song CD. They’ve also hired a publicist and are heading for a tour of western Canada this fall. While the band has raised just under $6,000 on the international crowdfunding site Indiegogo and received a government grant for $1,500, they hope to raise a further $1,000 at an upcoming fundraiser in Squamish on Sept. 13. The money will help cover costs related to the tour and publicist.

“We really want to get our name out there and get noticed. This is our first step into the [musical] world,” Sweeney says.

On Saturday (Sept. 13), the band will play at their fundraiser at the Squamish Legion. Tickets cost $10 at the door at 7 p.m. The band will hit the stage from 8 to 11 p.m.

“There will be guests of some sort,” Sweeney said. “It will just be a really fun night.”

Lovecoast will kick off their western Canada tour in Squamish on November 8. They will travel to Vancouver Island and Alberta.

Sweeney says she’s so grateful to the continuous support Squamish residents have demonstrated for the band.

“We could not be more thankful to Squamish,” she says, before adding,
“We all have amazing parents who are very supportive.”

This year, Lovecoast played at the Tall Tree Music Festival in Port Renfrew. They also made the regional Top 10 bands in CBC’s Searchlight competition. To learn more about the band or listen to their music visit www.lovecoastmusic.com.
