Human remains have been found on the Stawamus Chief, and authorities are now seeking the public’s help in recovering some of the skeletal remains.
According to an information bulletin posted by the BC Coroners Service, authorities were made aware on Friday (Feb. 27) of the possibility that skeletal remains had been found in the upper south gulley of the Stawamus Chief.
Based on that possibility, the BC Coroners Service, Squamish Search and Rescue and Squamish RCMP entered into a multi-agency recovery exercise starting on Saturday.
During the recovery exercise, authorities discovered that someone had entered the area where the remains were located on the afternoon of Feb. 26 and may have unknowingly became involved in the recovery operation.
Authorities stress that they are not suggesting that this person or persons involved in the recovery had any improper motives or they are in any legal difficulty. They just want to speak with the person involved or anyone else who may be able to assist with the recovery and ultimately assist in helping to identify the human remains.
Anyone with information is asked to call or text the Metro Region coroner at 604-660-7731 or the Whistler-Squamish coroner at 604-815-3567.
