A bomb threat shut down the north end of Hunter Place for more than three hours this afternoon.

RCMP closed off the road behind Squamish Station Shopping Centre to deal with the issue starting just before 1 p.m., but the road was reopened at around 4:20 p.m on Friday (July 17) afternoon.

Several officers and dogs then searched the area for hours before RCMP reopened the road.

According to Squamish RCMP Staff Sgt. Brian Cumming, a bomb threat was called in to the Ministry for Child and Family Development office located on Hunter Place earlier this afternoon. Efforts to trace the Internet-based call were unsuccessful.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
