Drowning in Mamquam Blind Channel

The Coroners Service has identified the person who was found in the Mamquam Blind Channel on Friday, Sept. 4.

Steven Munro, 67, drowned and was found near the Squamish Yacht Club on Friday, Sept. 4, the BC Coroners Service reported. His overturned skiff was located downstream, according to Squamish RCMP.

Munro owned a wooden sailboat that was moored across the channel from downtown Squamish, according to the coroner, and he used his skiff to get back and forth from town to the boat.

The investigation revealed Munro was the victim of an accidental drowning; there were no signs of foul play, police said.

The death continues to be investigated by the Squamish RCMP and the BC Coroners Service. Munro’s family has been notified of his death, the Coroner Service said in a news release.
