A U.S.-based business website has named Squamish the best mountain town in North America to visit this summer.
The ranking from CNNMoney.com mentions the just-opened Sea to Sky Gondola as a primary reason it ranked Squamish No. 1 among mountain vacation destinations for this summer. Crested Butte, Colo., was named runner-up in the category.
“Travellers visiting British Columbia’s Coast Mountains usually make a beeline to Whistler,” CNN wrote. “This year, though, the Squamish area, located about halfway between Vancouver and the former Olympic host, is becoming a destination in its own right, thanks to a new $22 million Sea to Sky Gondola and summit lodge.”
The website also highlighted the climbing and watersports, and a stroll through the Squamish Estuary, as popular activities with visitors and locals.
Squamish “is also one of B.C.’s best for beer lovers,” CNN reported, mentioning Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Co. and its craft brews as a primary reason for that.
