Computer, phones stolen

Here's this week's Squamish police brief

On Friday (July 18), police received a report of a theft from a vehicle that was parked near the intersection of Cliffside Lane and Smoke Bluff Road, Squamish RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.

A passenger-side window had been pried open and stolen were a 13-inch MacBook laptop computer, an iPhone 4, a Galaxy S4 phone, a Laco men’s watch, climbing gear, a white Patagonia backpack and a wallet containing cash, personal ID and credit cards. The theft is believed to have occurred between 12:30 and 5 p.m. The investigation is ongoing.

Business entered

Last Tuesday (July 15), Squamish RCMP received a report of a break and enter having occurred at a business in the 37000 block of Galbraith Avenue. A window had been broken in the rear of the building to gain entry, but not much had been disturbed and apparently nothing was stolen, Pride said. The damage was first noticed on Monday (July 14) at around 9 p.m.

Vehicle roof rack taken

On Friday (July 18), police received a report that a bike rack had been stolen from a vehicle as it was parked at Lucille Lake between Squamish and Whistler. Stolen were a four-bike carrier rack and Thule hitch mount. Total value of the stolen items is around $400. The theft is believed to have occurred between 1 and 4 p.m.

Items swiped

On Saturday (July 19), police received a report that a convenience store in the 38000 block of Cleveland Avenue was broken into overnight. Entry was gained through the roof of the business. Stolen were cigarettes, money and lottery tickets, along with some electronic equipment. A rear door was used to exit with the stolen items.

Van stolen

On Monday (July 21), police received a report of a 1997 blue Dodge Caravan having been stolen from the driveway of a home in the 1700 block of Harris Road. The incident occurred sometime between Sunday (July 21) at 10 p.m. and Monday at 7:30 a.m. The vehicle had been left unlocked, Pride said.

Fire ban lifted

On Tuesday (July 23), the Coastal Fire Centre lifted an open fire ban within the region. 

“The Coastal Fire Centre is rescinding its campfire prohibition due to forecasted cool and rainy weather conditions,” the centre stated in a press release. 

Open fires continue to be restricted throughout the area. Anyone violating the restriction can up issued a ticket of up to $345.
