A fundraiser will be held Thursday (Oct. 8) for the search teams involved in the search for an Australian diver whose body was recovered by the Canadian Coast Guard off Britannia Beach on Sept. 30.

Stephen Quinn Burnham, 49, became separated from his diving partner and failed to surface from a dive on Sept. 26, Squamish RCMP reported.

The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, the Canadian Coast Guard, Squamish Search and Rescue, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department and a commercial diver conducted searches until the coast guard recovered the body, police said.

There was nothing suspicious about the incident and the case has been turned over to the BC Coroner service, Squamish RCMP said.

Burnham’s family and friends are holding a fundraiser at Match Eatery and Public House in Squamish Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. Proceeds from tickets will be donated to Squamish Search and Rescue and the Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department.
