Local women thrilled with windfalls

For a second time in two weeks, a lottery ticket purchased in Squamish was a winner.

On Monday, Whistler’s Cathy Fraser picked up a $500,000 cheque from the British Columbia Lottery Corporation headquarters in Vancouver.

“I was a little bit dumbfounded, to be honest with you,” Fraser said immediately after picking up her cheque Monday afternoon.

She bought her Lotto Max ticket for the Oct. 23 draw in the Squamish Wal-Mart, she said.

“We drive through [Squamish] all the time, it is so convenient and… that is where I like to go.”

She said she doesn’t yet have plans for the money.

“It hasn’t even really sunk in,” she said. “My husband and I just keep poking each other in the arm.”

Last week, Squamish resident Amanda Butel picked up a $169,000 windfall from Lotto 6/49.
