Driver handed $22,000 fine for street racing

Here's this week's police briefs
A grey, 2014 Maserati and this black 2012 Ferrari were seen travelling northbound at Garibaldi Way.

On April 28, a Squamish traffic services officer responded to a report of two sports cars travelling at excessive speeds – possibly street racing – on Hwy 99 near Cleveland Ave, at approx. 11 a.m.

The officer located both vehicles travelling northbound on Hwy 99 near Garibaldi Way weaving and driving dangerously. At one point, the vehicles were clocked on radar as travelling at 140 kms/hr. The vehicles were eventually stopped, one being a 2014 Maserati GranTurismo, the other a 2012 Ferrari California. Both vehicles were impounded and both drivers given tickets for excessive speed and driving prohibitions for 15 days. The drivers, both from Vancouver, were aged 22 and 24 years.

The British Columbia Civil Forfeiture Office became involved and one driver was recently given a $22,000 fine, based on prior, similar driving behaviour. If this driver is caught driving in a similar dangerous manner, his Maserati will be subject to forfeiture.
